QUICKSTAD

Quickstad Quarter Horses is located near Sturgis, South Dakota in the northern Black Hills, just west of majestic Bear Butte. The historic Bismarck to Deadwood stage route crosses the northern edge of the ranch where you can still see the well worn wheel ruts.

Acquiring his first horse at age 10, Bob was raising and marketing foals before he was a teenager. Fascinated by genetics, he began studying pedigrees and selecting sires in an attempt to lay the foundation for future champions.

Jan was raised on her families diversified farm and learned to ride at an early age. Not having the luxury of proven breeding stock, family mares were bred to local stallions like the notoriously unridden, rodeo legend bucking horse "Pumphandle Pete", aptly named after her Uncle Pete, a local well driller.

Ironically, Jan's grandparents, whose ranch was also intersected by the Bismarch/Deadwood trail, supplied fresh teams to the stages that crossed their ranch south of Dog Tooth Hills near Flasher, ND on their way to the Black Hills.
